Edward Tong

Edward Tong received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, and the Ph.D. degree in physics while working in the Institut de Radioastronomie Millimetrique, Grenoble, France. For the past 25 years, he has been with the Smithsonian Observatory, working on the Submillimeter Array. He is principally involved with the development of quantum limited superconducting receivers for radio astronomy applications. His research interests include superconducting distributed mixers, millimeter and submillimeter low-noise receiver systems, mixers with ultra-wide IF bandwidth, hot electron bolometer mixers for terahertz detection, terahertz techniques, and microwave measurement methods.
